PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THE DREDGING EFFECTS ON THE TROPHIC STATE OF LAGO VIEJO OF CHAPULTEPEC
Main Article Content
Abstract
Based on the results of 16 monthly samples of nutrients (phosphorus and nitrogen) and chlrophyll a in Lago Viejo of Chapultepec in Mexico City, a shallow recreative and some how hypertrophic lake, it was observed the dredging effects in a zone of the same taken as a corrective measure. Nevertheless nitrate, orthophosphate, total phosphorus and chlorophyll a values raised (40, 2, 1.5 and 2 times, respectively) after dredging relative to the immediatly previous months, it was considered that they agree with the temporal normal variations observed before dredging. It is discussed the dredging as a corrective measure of the deletereous effects of eutrophication, and it was concluded that extensive monitoring is required for an efficient evaluation of the dredging action.
